Question: Why does chamomile always seem to grow near gates?
Answer:
Do you know what? I have never noticed this about that rather lovely plant which I normally spell 'camomile'. But I think that it is a very successful plant which farmers do not always want to have all over their fields. So they get rid of it from their fields and do not bother with what is left around their gates. Do you think that might be the explanation? I do know that it is a very highly prized medicinal plant. Here is a list of medical uses to which camomile can be put: it helps with abdominal bloating, abrasions, abscesses, acne, and anorexia; it is antibacterial, anticoagulant, antifungal, antioxidant, antipruritic, antispasmodic, and antiseptic; it soothes anxiety, it's aromatic, it helps with arthritis, asthma, back pain, bedsores, bladder disorders, blood purification, bruises, burns, cancer, canker sores, carpal tunnel syndrome, catarrh, chicken pox, constipation, contact dermatitis, cough, Crohn's disease, croup and delirium tremens; it's diaphoretic and diuretic; it's good for diverticulitis, dry skin, dysmenorrhea, ear infections, eye disorders, eye infections, fatty liver, fever, fistula healing, frostbite, gallstones, gingivitis, gout, hay fever, headaches, heartburn, hives, hypoglycemia, hysteria, impetigo, inflammatory conditions, insect bites, insomnia, intestinal cramps, irregular menstrual cycles, irritable bowel syndrome, kidney disorders, leg ulcers, liver disorders, low back pain, malaria, mastitis, menopause, morphine withdrawal, motion sickness, muscle strength, nasal inflammation, nausea, nervous stomach, neuralgia (nerve pain), nightmares, oral hygiene, osteoporosis, worms, peptic ulcers, perineal trauma, poison ivy, post-natal depression, psoriasis, rash (heat), respiratory inflammatory, restlessness, rheumatism, Roehmheld's syndrome, sciatica, seizure disorder, sinusitis, stomach cramps, sunburn, sunstroke, teething pain, tension, tics, toothache, travel sickness, tuberculosis, ulcerative colitis, ulcers, uterine disorders, uterine stimulant, uterine tonic, viral infection and vomiting. Not bad, eh, for a wee flower like a daisy that grows by gates?
