Great Uncle Fred, what happens to us after we die? (Harry, aged 4, Spring 2009)

Well, Harry, this is probably the best question that anyone could ask. Why is it the best question? It is the best question because it matters very very much and it is the best question because no one knows the answer. And no one knows the answer because people do not die and come back to life and tell everyone else what it was like to die. Or do they? Well, actually, there are some people who the doctors have thought were dead and then they got better. And some of these people have said that it was really very nice to be dead and they saw a lovely light and sometimes they saw their grandparents who had died before them and sometimes they felt that they knew many things that they had not known before and then they came alive again and they were much happier after that. But some people do not believe that they really died. I do. And I think that good things happen to us when we die, especially when we die after a living a good long time. But I am not completely sure about that. I do not think that anyone can be completely sure about the answer to your very good question but I can tell you what I think. I think we go to Heaven and it`s lovely there. Will that do?
