Question: Why do we have lunch?
Great Uncle Fred? Why do we have lunch? (Mystery Person, Autumn 2008)
Answer:
Lunch? Why do we have lunch? My dear Mystery Person, lunch is the secret of happiness! Lunch is why one gets up in the morning. Lunch transforms the desolate wasteland into the abundant meadow teeming with colour and fertility. Lunch is what matters, it proves your civilisation, indeed your humanity, it defies tyranny, it demonstrates irrefutably that there are more important things than money, it speaks of love and kindness and warmth and generosity. And it keeps you going until supper-time. Why do we have lunch? You might as well ask, "What is the point of love?" Lunch is what life is all about, almost.
